Riverwest Coop Café

Rachel and I went out for brunch at the Riverwest Coop Café this morning and we were both very impressed. Every time we eat here (which, sadly, isn’t very often), we both lament the fact that we lived right around the corner for years and never once stepped foot inside. Such a shame! We were really missing out.

The Riverwest Coop Café is one of Milwaukee’s only all-vegetarian restaurants, and because nearly everything on the menu is available vegan as well, it’s probably the closest thing we’ve got to a vegan restaurant right now.

Seating is very limited inside the café, but there are is also some seating outside, or you can order your food to go.

The Poor Boy was a brunch special today, and it was essentially one biscuit with gravy, sausage and scrambled tofu. I ordered it as a side, more or less, since it was only $4. I don’t think it’s on the menu all of the time, but they do have vegan biscuits & gravy on the breakfast menu all the time.

I also ordered the Ranchero Plate, which consisted of black beans, spanish rice, salsa, avocado, scrambled tofu and tortillas. Mixed all together, it made for a tasty breakfast. It was ton of food for only $6.95.

Rachel ordered the Veggie Scramble, with is scrambled tofu with various vegetables served with a side of toast and organic potatoes. I find a lot scrambled tofu offered at local restaurants to be rather bland to be honest, but this wasn’t lacking in flavor by any means. This was also only $6.95.

Milwaukee needs more restaurants that are like the Riverwest Coop Café. If they just didn’t serve dairy and eggs, they’d be perfect. We’ll have to stop back in for dinner some time and get more photos!
